Norman Famous

"Mr. Greg Philpott of Orbiter Guitars has done absolute wonders with every single one of my axes. He is the man when it comes to anything regarding guitars and basses. Not only that - he's a great guy, always willing to impart wisdom and advice and patient enough to endure my sometimes rambling questions. And get this - he's reasonable!

Greg is located in beautiful San Leandro, California, so if you're in the San Francisco area and you need someone to look after your precious axe - get in touch with him!

At a later date I'll post pictures of my guitars and detail what Greg's done to them to make then sing!"

Thank God for Greg Philpott and Orbiter Guitars! I'm one of those crazy guitar freaks on the Eternal Quest For Tone, and the agonizing, frustrating journey has finally become rewarding, all because of Greg. He is a vast respository of all things tone and can translate your garbled incoherent ramblings about the sound you want into concrete paydirt options.

Whether you are keeping your guitar as stock as possible or enjoy, as I do, mutating off-brand weirdo guitars into switch army knives of sonic joy, Greg is your man. No stone goes unturned in your quest. Greg is a walking compendium on every aspect of tone - from your guitar pickups, woods, bridge, trem bar amps, cables, stompboxes to your string gauge, pickup height, nut composition and fret size. He spends a lot of time analyzing your entire configuration to fine tune your tone. Mention a style, a guitarist, an album, whatever, and he knows what pickup was used, what guitar was used, what year it was and what shop it came out of. He's ridiculous that way.

Greg is also plugged in to behind-the-curtain boutique hand-made pickups of joy, and a wizard when it comes to true-bypass f/x mods. He is also a Wah Wah Historian. Greg's work is great, and surprisingly affordable and he'll work long and hard with you to understand what kind of setup you want. He'll never question your choices, but if you ask for his opinion, he's ready to lay down 10 alternatives.

And he's totally into pickup re-wiring so you can not only combine the lead and neck pickups of your strat for example, but actually blend how much of each you want - he has more circuit diagrams, switches, push/pull and blender pots in his bag of tricks than you can imagine - and then some. He understands and embraces keeping things stock, but also totally digs working with you to create a guitar that gives you what you need for your own unique tone - so you don't sound like anyone but yourself.

Greg is also great at refinishing your guitar with superb paint jobs - he has all the original Fender paints for example - from way back when Fender colours were the same as the hot cars of those eras. He can make that paint job look sparkling new, or age it into vintage hues. Besides all the tech genius, Greg is fun and entertaining to talk to and has stories that span the gamut from guitar greats, bands and tricks and tips, to surf and snowboard adventures.

And above all, Greg loves a tone challenge! He's not just some vendor who cleans up your guitar, slaps in a pickup and sends you a bill. He is your true partner in tone, in it for the long haul.

"I trust Greg... with all of my babies. He's not just a great guitar tech, he's a great guy who does whatever it takes to get the job done to his client's satisfaction.

The harder part for Greg though seems to be getting things done to HIS satisfaction! He's a perfectionist with good taste and a truly gifted sense of what's right and wrong with an instrument. He possesses all the 'science' necessary to get it right by-the-book; and the artistry necessary to get it right by-the-feel.

He's always exceeded my expectations with the setup and custom work he's done for me over the past couple of years. I strongly believe he'll do the same for you.
And, you'll not find a more reasonably valued service anywhere."

Perry Lightfoot

As a performer and a collector, I have found a gold mine at Orbiter Guitars.
The way my instruments are made to play and sound never ceases to impress me, as well as my audience and fellow collectors.
My instuments are investements that appreciate in value. Over the years I have taken them to so many of the Bay Area's top luthiers/repair experts. Nowdays I only make one stop in this department, thats Obiter!
I will continue to recommend Orbiter Guitars to anyone who wants their instrument to look and perform at it's maximum capability, as well as receive prompt, friendly, expert service.

Dan "Elektro" Amrich

I've turned to Orbiter Guitars to improve more than 20 instruments, from mild tweaks and simple setups all the way through to dropping off guitars in pieces and saying "Can you make this work?" Greg Philpott is a perfectionist and will do the job right - he's the only guy I've heard say "No, it's not good enough, I know how to improve this" after I say "Hey, that's awesome, great job, here's your money." I've used other guitar techs, but they inevitably cut corners or simply failed to fix what needed fixing. Not so with Greg, whose expertise and magic fingers have made guitars I once thought to be hopeless cases into silky-playing, stunning-sounding instruments that I don't want to put down. Custom wiring jobs, oddball instruments, total refinishes--try as I might, none of my crazy requests or unusual guitars has stumped Greg, and I've never left Orbiter disappointed.

I hate Guitar Center. You hear me? I hate it. If you walked up to me and tried to sell me a solid state with some DOD pedals, while flashing the "rock on" sign, I would hate you too... even if you didn't smell like the mosh pit at a nu-metal concert. What's so core about not bathing?

Greg at Orbiter Guitars is awesome. Most musicians and guitar techs are jerks. Yeah, I said it. If you're a musician, than, statistically speaking, you're probably a jerk too. Greg's a genuinely nice guy who understands that music is about having a good time. He loves what he does and it really shows. He makes his own boutique pedals, for crying out loud. I can't recommend him enough.

I had my LP Studio and Tele set for a really great price. The LP was SINGING after. It was as if someone bought me a brand-new guitar (that was made in the 60s). I'm in love. I love you, my wine red little friend. Yes, I do... Yes, I do...
